Dr. Nupur Kapoor Nerurkar is an ENT surgeon, who graduated in 1994 from KEM Hospital with a first rank in the Bombay University. Following her Laryngology training on the Hargobind Fellowship in 2003 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, she initiated a Voice Clinic at Sion Hospital (Mumbai) where she was an Associate Professor at that time.
Since 2004, she is practicing exclusively as a Laryngologist and is currently heading the Bombay Hospital Voice & Swallowing Center. Dr. Nerurkar is also the DNB Co-ordinator of the ENT Department at Bombay Hospital and Director of the Laryngology Fellowship program. Her focus is neurolaryngology, phonomicrosurgery, management of early vocal fold cancer, care of professional voice users including singers and transvoice surgeries.
Dr. Nerurkar is the only Indian Laryngologist to be a fellow of the American Broncho-Esophagological Association as well as the American Laryngological Association, to date. She is also the only Indian to be selected to receive a Presidential citation from the American Laryngological Association (May 2024 in Chicago).
Dr Nupur Nerurkar was invited to Berlin in 2022 to be a founding member of the International Association of TransVoice Surgeons. This group has been founded by 12 Trans voice surgeons from various parts of the world with Nupur representing India.
Nupur is an Executive Committee member of the International Association of Phonosurgeons, past President of the Association of Phonosurgeons of India (APSI) and currently on the Governing Council of the Association and member of the Voice Foundation.
She is the Chief Editor of the “Textbook of Laryngology” which is the Official Textbook of the APSI. She has authored an “Atlas of Phonomicrosurgery” in 2017, is Associate Editor of the Laryngology Volume of “Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery Series “(Thieme, 2013), former Associate Editor of LPV which is the official publication of the British Laryngology Association and is Associate Editor of “Otorhinolaryngology Head Neck Surgery”, 2017.
Dr. Nupur has over 100 publications and book chapters to her credit and has delivered over 400 presentations in India and Abroad. She has delivered multiple orations and keynotes, namely IFOS Laryngology keynote at Paris, LSA Keynote in Sydney, 1st East African Workshop Keynote in Kenya, Dr. V.P. Sood Oration (Delhi), Dr. T. V. Krishna Rao Oration (Hyderabad), A.O. I Rajasthan State Oration (Kota), Dr. V. Pillai Oration (Kovallam), Dr Raman Pillai Oration (Trissur), Dr. W. G. Atre Oration (Pune), Dr Kurulkar Anatomy Oration, Dr. Manu Kothari Humanities Oration (KEMH – Mumbai), Dr. N.K. Agarwala Oration (Guwahati), Dr V. Samba Murthy Oration (Hyderabad) and Dr Satyaban Roy Oration (Kolkata).
Dr. Nupur has been awarded the Gold Medal in Junior Consultant Award Category at National A.O.I. Conference, the First Prize in Video Session at National A.O.I. Conference, the First Prize at Phonocon 2006, the Third Prize at Senior Consultant Award Category at National A.O.I. Conference. She was awarded the prestigious David Howard prize in Laryngology 2012 and has been voted as Mumbai’s Top Doctor in Voice Category each year since its inception.
Dr. Nerurkar has been Course Director of 18 Live Phonosurgery workshops at Bombay hospital to date and multiple Phonosurgery workshops all over the country.
Being a Mentor to budding ENT surgeons who want to specialize in Voice Disorders via the Bombay Hospital Laryngology Fellowship Program initiated in 2007 and through multiple free surgical and teaching workshops both Nationally and Internationally as well as public awareness programs. Working with government institutes and hospital administration to provide gratis transvoice surgery.
